Solution of Poisson ’ s equation for finite systems using plane wave methods

چکیده
Reciprocal space methods for solving Poisson’s equation for finite charge distributions are investigated. Improvements to previous proposals are presented, and their performance is compared in the context of a real-space density functional theory code. Two basic methodologies are followed: calculation of correction terms, and imposition of a cut-off to the Coulomb potential. We conclude that these methods can be safely applied to finite or aperiodic systems with a reasonable control of speed and accuracy. PACS numbers: 31.15.-p, 02.70.-c, 71.15.-m Typeset using REVTEX 1

Vibration and Stability of Axially Moving Plates by Standard and Spectral Finite Element Methods
Based on classical plate theory, standard and spectral finite element methods are extended for vibration and dynamic stability of axially moving thin plates subjected to in-plane forces. The formulation of the standard method earned through Hamilton’s principle is independent of element type. But for solving numerical examples, an isoparametric quadrilateral element is developed using Lagrange ...

ABSTRACT This paper presents the theoretical developments of two finite strip methods (i.e. semi-analytical and full-analytical) for the post-buckling analysis of isotropic plates. In the semi-analytical finite strip approach, all the displacements are postulated by the appropriate shape functions while in the development process of the full-analytical approach, the Von-Karman’s equilibrium equ...

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...
متن کاملElectrostatic analysis of the charged surface in a solution via the finite element method: The Poisson-Boltzmann theory
Electrostatic potential as well as the local volume charge density are computed for a macromolecule by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) using the finite element method (FEM). As a verification, our numerical results for a one dimensional PBE, which corresponds to an infinite-length macromolecule, are compared with the existing analytical solution and good agreement is found. As a ma...
